New Dolls!

Hey Everyone! So sorry that I didn't get to finish my 31 dolls for Halloween. I should've known better than to try that with my husband coming home and upcoming trips. Maybe I can try again next year. We had a great time at Disney! Sorry for the lack of pictures. I'll try to get up at least a couple soon. Also last week we went to Knott's Berry Farm (one more place knocked off of our have to go to list before we get transferred from San Diego). Love, love, love the rollercoasters there!!!! Awesome! They have a special going on right now where a military member and a guest get in for FREE and up to 6 more people for only $15 each, so since our daughter was the only one we had to pay for it only cost us the gas and $15 to go! Couldn't pass up a deal like that! Anyway at the end of the day we decided to do a little browsing in some of the cute stores they have there and wouldn't you know they had one full of dolls. Unfortunately we are really broke right now and most of the dolls were around $100 but then I saw this little sweetie and couldn't belive she was only $32.99 so I couldn't resist she just had to come home with me. Plus I got the other tiny little 5" doll for only $6.00. Woohoo! They are both porcelain which I don't usually collect but I just couldn't resist their sweet little faces. :)

Halloween Dolls #14, 15, & 16

It's a trio of Nightmare Before Christmas Dollcena Dolls!
1st up we have Dandy Pumpkin Great
the middle doll is Pure Patchwork
and the last one is What is Christmas?!
Very very early Friday morning we are going to Disneyland for 3 days so I might possibly come back with another Halloween themed doll to show you. We are really happy to be going to Disney during Halloween! The Halloween decorations, food and of course the rides are going to be awesome! The first rides on the agenda are Space Mountain, The Haunted Mansion, The Tower of Terror, Finding Nemo's Sub, and Toy Story! Yea!!! We will also be taking a ton of pictures and trying as many of the special holiday treats as we can. :)

Halloween Dolls #12 & 13

Disney's Halloween Dollcena dolls by Tomy
Flying Witch Cat & Bat in the Dots
These were the last two Dollcena dolls that I was able to get from Toys R'Us in Japan before we transferred. I'm so glad that we were there long enough to get these two cuties!
Here's a link to a gallery of all of the Dollcena dolls. I'm missing 12 of them. Guess I need to get busy ordering them before the prices start going up more.

Halloween Dolls #10 & 11

"Who are you?" said the Caterpillar.
Alice replied, rather shyly, "I-I hardly know, sir, just at present-at least I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then."
"What do you mean by that?" said the Caterpillar sternly. "Explain yourself!"
I can't explain myself, I'm afraid, sir" said Alice, "because I'm not myself, you see."
Oh how I simply adore Alice in Wonderland! She has been one of my favorite characters since I was little. So I simply couldn't leave Alice out of the Halloween Doll list.
Here's a cute little Alice video. Enjoy!
Toys R' Us Exclusive Cute and Curious Neo Blythe & Petite Blythe Marmalade Heart

I bought Cute and Curious Alice from the Toys R'Us in Nagasaki while we were living in Japan.
They didn't have Marmalade Heart so I had to buy her off the internet.

Halloween Doll #9

Shiver me timbers mates it be Treasure Hunt Petite Blythe!
You need to be checking out this Blythe treasure hunting video or you'll have to walk the plank! Arg!

Halloween Doll #8

Dal doll "Tazca" by Jun Planning
My wonderful hubby bought this doll for me from the Valley of the Dolls website while he was in Iraq on deployment for my birthday. Yea! He knows what I like so well! :) I still need to get Lipoca though. Maybe for our anniversary. hehe. Isn't she great!

Halloween Doll #7

Dal "Angry" Doll by Jun Planning in collaboration with h. Naoto
My husband got this little sweetie for me from Valley of the Dolls back in March before his deployment when we took a day trip to Los Angelos. We managed to stop by the shop before we had to head back home. The people there are really nice and they let me take lots of pictures and even brought Bianca out to let me see her and take a picture. Bianca is a $600 doll so not really in our budget right now but definately on my wish list! I had originally wanted to get Lipoca but couldn't resist Angry as soon as I saw her! We paid $138.00 for her at the shop but they have her for $115 on their website. Still need to get Hangry to but don't see her on their website anymore so will have to head over to Ebay when I'm ready to get her.

Halloween Doll #5 & 6

Introducing Halloween Licca!
Licca dolls are the Japanese version of Barbie or maybe Skipper since she's actually supposed to be a young girl and not a grown adult. These 2 Licca's are actually in optional costumes and didn't come dressed like this. The blond was just a standard bottom of the price list Licca and the purple haired one is one that they made for the tub, her hair changes to blue in warm water (it will also change colors just from the warmth of your hands). I have a bunch of Licca's that I got specifically to dress in the optional Holiday costumes. We lived in Japan for 3 years and these were the three Halloween outfits that came out while we were there. Since I ran out of Licca dolls I decided to just leave the last outfit in the package to show how they came.
You can find Licca dolls on Ebay or here's another place you find them http://www.toymints.com/dollslicca1.htm
I'll take a picture of my group of them and post it later hopefully today, I'll try anyway.

Halloween Doll #4 Emerald The Witch

This little green haired cutie is an Emerald the Witch doll. She stands at 6 1/2 inches tall and was made in 1972 by Milton Bradley/Amesco Industries. Her eyes are supposed to flash or blink or something but her's don't work very well. I took her apart to try to fix her and I got them to glow but it is very faint. Oh well that's ok I don't like having a battery in her anyway. Emerald came with many accesories like a car, house, cauldron and several other outfits. I don't have any of her accesories (the cauldron in the picture is one I picked up at Michael's), I actually felt extremely fortunate to get her in her complete costume for the price I paid which was about $40 on Ebay. Believe me that is a steal since they normally go for anywhere between $150-$500. Here is a link that shows some of her other outfits http://www.dollreference.com/emerald_enchanting_witch.html
and here's a seller that actually has some of her very rare and very hard to find accesories.
She is a very cute little doll and has gained alot of popularity among collectors. There are all kinds of people customizing her and posting pictures on Flicker. Here's a link to one that I thought was really cute! http://www.flickr.com/photos/nekonohitai/3536312126/in/pool-the_coven
She even has one that had a reroot done and now has blond hair. Cute! I may have to get another one now!

The 14 inch Ready For Treats Betsy McCall is on my wish list and definately hard to find!

Happy October!

Happy October Everyone! I love October! The cooler weather, horror movies every night, candy and of course Halloween!
Sorry I haven't been on lately. My husband got back from Iraq a couple of weeks ago and we've been super busy since he's been home and it's not over yet! Next Friday we go to Disneyland! I'll be posting some pictures of our trip soon after we get back. In the mean time though I had the idea to post 31 spooky dolls in honor of Halloween. Since I'm a little late in starting the post I will be posting several dolls a day for the next couple of days to get caught up.

Doll #1
14.5 inch Flexi-pose Agnes Dreary by Robert Tonner Limited edition of 200. She's made of vinyl and has a new stringing method that maximizes posability. I paid $139. for her and got the Agnes Dreary Rag Doll as a bonus with free shipping but she's on sale right now for $112.00 which is a really great deal! Her entire outfit is lined in white cotton to keep the black fabric from bleeding onto her body. Tonner dolls are really great quality so if you are thinking of getting one you wouldn't be disappointed.
Eventually I want to get the original Aganes Dreary doll. Occasionally you can find them on Ebay. Maybe soon.

Doll of the week!

Ppo Ppo Doll from Garden of Dolls

This is Penelope she's a 9" resin ball jointed doll that my husband got for me for Christmas last year. ;) She was $160 on sale on Ebay.
Penelope's bedroom is all Licca furniture that I bought while we were in Japan. You can find it on Ebay though.
She's wearing an extra Licca dress but she can also wear Blythe clothes.
Latidoll wigs fit her very well. I think they are a size 5.5
I can't remember what size she wears though.
I made her room up in an old cabinet that someone was getting rid of. So it was free!
She comes in either normal or white skin. Mine is the normal skin. I would like to get the white skin doll too though. Our anniversary is coming up in November maybe I can talk my hunny into getting Penelope a friend. :)

Busy Busy Busy!

It is getting a little crazy around here. I finished up my girl moogle who I named Maggie, spent three days helping Megan clean her room (now am sorting through all the toys she doesn't want anymore deciding what to sell and what to just get rid of), shopping, getting the house ready for my husband to come home which mainly involves getting all these toys out of here, and have started a new amigurumi pattern. Whew! Oh yes plus I just shucked, cooked and froze a whole box of corn on the cob.

By the way....

Sorry I was a little late posting the doll of the week on here. One of my many other interests is crocheting and knitting and I started a new blog about amigurumi dolls and have been posting there as I finish the projects that I've been working on or find new patterns. The picture above is a moogle doll from Final Fantasy 10 that I finished a couple of days ago but unfortunately I found that I did my decreased stitches wrong (I had just learned how to do an invisible decrease) and so I have to go back and make another one (ah darn) to make sure I correct my mistakes before typing the pattern up and posting it on Etsy. Anyway here's the link if you'd like to check it out.
I've got so many great ideas plus awesome patterns that I've found that I want to work on, it might be awhile before I find time to make any more doll dresses. Well maybe I can squeeze in one or two inbetween patterns. :)

Featured Doll of the Week- My Child

Here is my one and only My Child doll.
These dolls were made from 1985 -1988.
I bought this little sweetie for around $20 from someone on Ebay which is a total bargain because most of them go for around $100 or more when they are all cleaned up and looking cute.
When she arrived she looked quite pitiful. She was naked, dirty, her hair was a tangled mess, and she had lost all of her coloring.
So I did a quick search on these dolls and found a website of someone who knew how to fix them up. I wanted to bring her back to her original sweetness but didn't want to mess her up!
http://www.nodecaf.net/Marisa/mc/mcmain.html
After getting her all cleaned up and her hair parted and put up in cute little bows. Now she needed clothes off to Ebay for a pattern.
(not sure this is the actual pattern that I used but it's close)
http://cgi.ebay.com/Pattern-for-My-Child-Doll-Clothes-ABC-Dress_W0QQitemZ350227489348QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item518b2f6244&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
Then it was off to Michaels during a sale of their prisma color pencils to put the color back into her cheeks! (and lips and eyelashes)
Now I just need to find her some socks and shoes and she'll be back to good as new. :)
Here's another website full of these darling dolls!

Enjoy!

LOL

A friend told me the other day that if someone didn't know me and walked into my house they would dub me the Creepy Doll Lady. I just laughed and told her I was totally fine with that. I should have said that's what I aspire to be known as. Hehe.

Featured Doll of the Week- Little Miss No Name

Little Miss No Name
Came out in 1965 for only a short time and was discontinued.
I got mine off of Craigslist for $40 but then paid another $20 for shipping. So $60 total still not a bad deal considering they go for a $100 or better on Ebay especially for the ones that still have their tear.
She was a little dirty and her hair was really dry so I cleaned her all up and washed and conditioned her hair (it's really soft now) and bought her a replacement headband, her dress, panties and tear are all original.
FYI: There are some sellers on Ebay that sell replacement dress, panties, tear and headband if you need them to make your little girl complete.
If you'd like to learn more about this little sweety here are a couple of really cool websites dedicated to her.

Some of my spooky dolls.

In honor of the contest I thought I would share a picture of some of the creepy cute dolls in my collection. :)
I'm thinking in October in honor of Halloween (of course) I'll post individual pictures of them and talk a little bit about each one.
(sorry about the glare)

Woo Hoo! - 100% Correct!

Just got the email informing me that I got them all correct! :) Yea! Now just have to wait until August 25th for the results on the winner.

Horror + Doll Give Away + Trivia = Awesome!

Tattered Rags is hosting a doll give away!
AWESOME!!!!
Just submitted my answers for the trivia tonight and keeping fingers crossed!
The winner gets this creepy cute zombie doll. If you click on the picture it will take you to her website and you can see more of her awesome dolls.
Good luck if like me you're a horror fan and decide to enter!

More dresses I've made recently.

Here's a horse dress that I made for Megan's friend's sister. Sorry that you can't see the dress that well I forgot to take a picture of it while it was still on my dress mannequin. As I'm sure you can see she was totally thrilled with it. :)

Here's a butterfly dress that I made with the intention of selling. However it takes me so long to make the dresses that I've about given up on that idea since it took me a week to make and many trips back and forth to Joanns. The pattern I used was the same one used in the contest dresses. The fabric is really beautiful and my camera doesn't do justice to it.

Another dress I made originally to sell. But it looks so good on my doll I don't think I can part with it. I told my husband instead of making dresses to sell I need to learn how to make my own patterns to sell. That way I don't have to part with my creations. :)

I made these matching Am. Girl doll dresses for my daughter and her best friend that she went to visit recently. I took the girls up to Joanns and told them that they could pick out whatever fabric they wanted me to make a dress from and then I picked out the trim and coordinating fabric.

This is the fabric that Megan's friend picked out.

And here is the fabric that Megan picked out.

I think I have an easier time letting go of them when I know I'm making them with a specific person in mind.

I gave these to them when I went to pick up Megan from her friend's house where she visited for a couple of weeks. They were really thrilled with them especially Megan. :)

Lots to catch up on!

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted. The last couple of months have been interesting to say the least. During the contest I was also going to sewing classes and then Megan't friend came to stay with us for two weeks and then she went to stay at her friend's house for 3 weeks and I kept busy by making all the kids a gift. Anyway I'm back on track now and will try to be better about posting more regularly.

Dress that I made for Megan's doll using the contest pattern. Tea Time anyone. :)

Here's my new doll in another dress that I made with the certificate that I won hanging on my wall. :)

Here's a picture of the dolls that I got to choose from for the grand prize. I chose the doll in the middle because I've been wanting to get a blonde haired blue eyed doll and now I have one. :)

So sorry I didn't get around to posting this sooner but I WON! YEA!!!! :) There were so many beautiful dresses that I was just sure I didn't have a chance and I actually won by a very slim margin on the voting but I WON! :)

Here's the third and final dress that I made for the contest. I was going for a kind of Alice in Wonderland look although the striped tights that I had planned on making didn't work out. Oh well.

Another Dress for the contest!

Whew! I finally finished another dress to submit to the contest on Friday. Yea! For this one I cross stitched the roses onto the fabric using waste canvas (first time I've ever tried it and it was actually pretty easy). Another first for me on this dress was I used snaps that you have to hammer in, instead of sew on snaps. I did run into a slight problem though. When I first attached the trim to the bodice I ironed over it and slightly melted it so I had to go back and remove it and reattach a new piece. Other than that not too many problems. The trim was slow going since I wanted to make sure that I got it on there so that you couldn't see the sew line. Sucess!

All in all I'm very happy with how this one turned out. Now I'm off to try to make one more before the contest deadline. Wish me luck! :)

Contest Doll Dress

I made this dress for the Morrissey Doll Pattern company contest. I'm hoping that I will win so I can get the beautiful blonde and blue eyes doll. (fingers crossed)! I spent about a week making the dress some of it was my own screw ups (I had to reattach the skirt 4 times because I kept catching the gathers in the hem. Ugh!) Aside from that this is the first time that I've used beads on a dress (had a bit of trouble with that also I wasn't making the knot in the thread big enough and the thread would pull through and the bead would fall off) finally got that worked out and this is also the first time I've done embroidery on a dress (I traced the cherries onto the collar and then embroidered them on. :) Plus I made a net underskirt to add fullness to the skirt, bloomers and a hair bow. :) I was kinda nervous about entering the contest but I am pretty proud of what I finally accomplished.
